I know what you mean about the roof, they did the chop at the Bertone factory and they tend to rust more than a standard 240, that one is less than £3k, but I agree with your plan it seems a better idea to make a Frankenstein type creation out of a more plentiful model, the more Q car the better

does giving up smoking actually keep you awake at night? I gave em up on new years eve and haven't had a proper nights kip since.

i haven't had more than 2 hours a night in the last week - i stayed up last night all through till now - feeling tired and helping out in mates garage for the week - clean-up kinda stuff so can't wait to do some work and get proper tired

hopefully tonight i'l grab some kip , i've never had this not sleeping while giving up thing before but in fairness i'm coming off 30 a day, cold turkey at the moment till i really feel the need - which i have to say hasn't showed its head yet - i'm quite ok about it so far

Awesome idea, 960 motor plus big turbo would be great. I believe the 240 back axle is very strong so no issues there and I think there's an LSD from a later RWD model (probably 960) that will go straight into the 240 back axle, but you'd need to ask the hardcore volvo experts about that one to be sure.

Ive actually got a 242 here, was a big volvo head before getting into BMW's. Mine is a Cal import i converted to RHD. Still at shell stage but im going to fit a T5 engine to it along with the 960 box and Jeep cherokee LSD.

262C is a different shell to a 240 and as they were built in Italy by Bertone they have terrible rustproofing and rot like nothing on earth ( i had a 78 262C manual RHD - original Irish car. )

If your looking for any parts/advice let me know. I have owned quite a lot of 240's and done lots of work on them.

Nice to find someone else interested in Volvos!

ben - legend god i love octane - i will no doubt be annoying you about compatible gearboxes from the volvo family and diffs etc - is the rhd conversion difficult - pedals and all that gear , i have the t5 here ready to chop up so its just a case of getting a 242 when i get back from me travels

Yeah sure drop me a pm any time and ill give you my number and we can chat about it, where in the country are you? I know of a 242 for sale at present in the uk. Ive seen it myself in the flesh so to speak and knew the last two owners. The present owner wants a grand for it with no engine i think its a bit pricey as it does need a little welding.

the red one on retro rides - saw it - bit pricey alright - i'd sooner take a clean one in from sweden and i'm trying to get a classic one for tax and insurance purposes - ooh vrt too

i'l probably start by gathering of parts - off to korea for a year in 2 ish months all going well and this will be my project for when i get back

will the brakes from the 850 t5 fit onto the 242 bolt on style or will i be looking at finding another car for parts

missed the holset turbo by 20 quid - damn shower

In mullingar man

Yeah, more a disturbed night tho. Stick with it, and it will pass. If I'm honest the worst for me lasted about 3 months. Then after that I found the hardest thing was getting out of bed first thing in the morning, as there's not coffee+fag to get up for. I just get up for other things now...
