Default Insomnia and old volvos muh hahahhahahha

i'm off the smokes a week tomorrow and i can't sleep untili literally collapse(i miss my pre-snooze smoke that bad) , as a result i'm up plotting the next phase of my car ownership woes

i have the 850 t5, crippling on fuel, a ***** on road tax and generally a bit too high maintenance for a daily driver - its running right and the engine has been recently rebuilt too

i've just slapped a stupid bid on a holset turbo, think cummins diesel engines a which all the big swede knobs use on their machines

i'v a hankering after a tax free classic, cheap as chips, rwd project for when i get back from me travels and i came up with this kinda idea

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/V...nout_50323.htm

http://www.blocket.se/vi/19373715.htm?ca=5_s this one is 1870 euros

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/F...242_143660.htm

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/O...e-6_143634.htm

yes i'm probably an idiot but getting a 2 door 240 ain't too difficult, a clean lhd version is circa 1500 quid from sweden - never sold anywhere else bar usa and i have absolutely everything bar engine management on the 850 , i could convert it to rhd handy out for roads here , cheap tax ,classic insurance etc

it may take me years but its a better plan than 1.8 ting the golf, if i could get my paws on a 960 turbo eventually i'd do something really mad but 300-350 hp would be nice in a car weighing in and around 1200 kg stripped

Buy a 242 now, worry about engine swaps later. Looks so cool.

A nod of my cap in your general direction, sir.

Fine idea.

Will a diesel turbo work on a petrol engine?Dont think it'll take the heat for long, could well be wrong tho??????

Thats the stuff lads thats what i wanted to hear, the holset turbos are literally meant to be bomb proof and are primarily designed for large diesel engines cummins 8 litres at a minimum - i think the one i'm bidding on is rated for up to 28psi - i'l be running half that if lucky and the use of an oil cooler apparently saves any hassle with them - lads in sweden have been bolting them onto old volvos for years with great results so should be ok - oh and they are seriously cheap by comparision to a normal charger

all i'd really have to worry about is decent engine management a lot of these cars run on vems management which i know nothing about yet

these are the crowd that custom made the wheeels on the first car - i'm nuring a semi and compared with bbs etc they seem like ok money http://www.kodiakracingwheels.com/wheel-prices.php

this is the build thread for the first car - using the originalengine with a turbo pinned on

http://forums.turbobricks.com/showth...t=64485&page=2

phil they seem to be using megasquirt - i may be needing your expertise in this department eventually

I would go for a sheddy 240 estate with "Brennans Animal Feeds" or something stickers in the back window and a stuffed dog in the back.

They did make a RHD 2 door '240' model, the Bertone 262 coupe, with a chopped roof and the douvin (IIRC) V6 engine

i don't like them for some reason, the roof looks like an afterthought to me and they are damn pricey ones on autoscout are nudging 17k for a tidy example - i'm thinking stripped out fast road car at best - comfortable cruiser is gone by the wayside

plus if i get the 242 it ain't too much of a deal to convert it to rhd and i know of about 20 240's in various states of hoarding and disrepair i can possibly get bits off
